Babergh District Council

Babergh District Council maintains an active role in the Haven Gateway Partnership and recognises the need to balance the enormous employment and economic development opportunities with the needs of the environment and residents' quality of life.

Babergh covers a large part of south Suffolk; from the Shotley Peninsula in the east to Sudbury and beyond in the west. Although a mainly rural area, with beautiful landscapes and many listed buildings, the district is also an area of growing population where over 33,000 people are employed. There is an increasing diversity of businesses located in the district; ranging from traditional agricultural and manufacturing based companies through to high tech firms and the self-employed working from home.

Babergh District Council takes an active role in enhancing the economic prosperity of its area, both in its own right and through partnership with other public and private bodies. These initiatives have included Business Incubator Centres (in Sudbury and soon-to-be in Hadleigh), a Business Growth Loan Scheme and Business Workspace Grants as well as ensuring that the new Local Plan contains a sufficient number of sustainable sites for future business growth.
