Tendring District Council

Tendring District Council covers an area of 33,717 hectares of the Tendring peninsula in the north eastern corner of Essex.  It has an attractive environment characterized by its estuarine setting, a diverse range of large and small villages and coastal reports. It is a founder member of the Haven Gateway Partnership.

Tendring is one of the fastest growing parts of the Eastern region.  Its population of around 147,000 is projected to rise to 167,000 by 2020 due to a high level of inward migration.  Although it is mainly rural in nature two thirds of the population lives in the three main coastal towns.

The District enjoys relatively good road and rail links and plans to upgrade the A120 are included in the Bathside Bay container port expansion plans at Harwich.   The economy is characterised by the abundance of SMEs across a wide range of sectors.  The major sectors include tourism, port and logistics, marine leisure, public services and healthcare.

The Council's main priority is a strong local economy, to be created by exploiting development opportunities, increasing inward investment and regenerating the rural economy to create more jobs.  To deliver this priority the Council set up Tendring Regeneration Limited in April 2008, a company limited by guarantee, with the trading name of IN Tend.

The company is charged with giving new impetus to making changes to the future physical, economic, social and environmental regeneration of the District.  It will do this by working closely with the Council and other partners to deliver on a wide range of regeneration projects across the District.  Further details of IN Tend and its  Delivery Plan can be found at www.in-tend.org
