Hutchison Ports (UK) Ltd

The Port of Felixstowe is the largest containerport in the UK and the  fifth largest in  Northern Europe.    Each year the port handles approximately  3  million TEU, more than 40 per cent of all containers entering or leaving the UK. In addition to container traffic, the port is a major roll-on/roll-off port, accommodating freight ferries from Europe, and has extensive warehousing operations.

With nearly 4,000 metres of quay,  31 ship-to-shore gantry cranes covering nine container berths,  and two ro-ro linkspans, Felixstowe  offers a range of services to unit-load shippers. The port is increasing container capacity by 50% through its Felixstowe South Reconfiguration scheme.

Marine facilities at Felixstowe are maintained to ensure minimal tidal influence. The main navigation channels are dredged to 14.5 metres, the deepest of any UK containerport, and the depth alongside the berths, at 15 metres, can accommodate the world's largest containerships.

Excellent road and rail connections provide easy access to the major industrial centres throughout the UK. Two rail terminals handle more than 20 per cent of the port's domestic throughput, with up to  27 incoming and  27  outgoing trains a day.

These basic strengths arising from geography, infrastructure and service, backed up by secure warehousing and vigorous local haulage presence, are the reasons why shipping companies and their customers continue to make Felixstowe their preferred port of call.
