'A local strategy for the Felixstowe peninsula' has been produced and sets out a vision to guide regeneration and future development in the Felixstowe area. The project has been funded by the East of England Development Agency, English Partnerships, Felixstowe Town Council, the Haven Gateway Partnership and Suffolk Coastal District Council, and the report was produced by David Lock Associates.
The document is an independent set of recommendations and is not itself a finalised development plan for the Felixstowe area. It is hoped that it will stimulate investment and linked policies in a variety of spheres, in both the public and private sectors. It will inform, and be a significant input to, the emerging Suffolk Coastal Local Development Framework, which will be subject to full and formal public consultation.
The report addresses a number of the key issues facing the Felixstowe area, including housing, employment, leisure, the town centre, and community development. It states that action must be taken to ‘prevent some worrying trends without intervention threaten many simple aspects of life that the existing population currently take for granted.’
