The Haven Gateway Sub-Region surrounds the estuaries of the Rivers Stour and Orwell on the boundary of North East Essex and South East Suffolk. The functional economic sub-region does not easily correspond with local administrative boundaries. The core of the sub-region sits within the areas of the local authority districts of Colchester and Tendring in Essex and Babergh, Ipswich and Suffolk Coastal in Suffolk.
