2012 Olympic Games

Through London hosting the Olympic Games in 2012 we can:

  • raise the sub-region's national and international profile
  • grow the visitor economy (tourism)
  • secure Olympics-related contracts for businesses in the sub-region (Compete 4)
  • increase opportunities for people to get involved in sport, culture and volunteering
  • enhance the sub-region's cultural and sporting facilities
  • increase our skills base

The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are coming to London and the location of the Olympic Stadium at Stratford - less than an hour away an accessible directly by train - means that the Haven Gateway sub-region is exceptionally well-placed to take significant advantage of the opportunities hosting the games within easy reach of the sub-region brings.

The projected benefits of the Olympics to the Eastern region could be as high as £600 million and it is important that the Haven Gateway sub-region benefits from at least its share of this benefit.

All our local authorities, local strategic partnerships and many businesses have already  recognised the opportunities hosting the Olympics presents but the Partnership  is keen to add value and profile to this work by highlighting these opportunities.

A number of training camps are to be located in the Haven Gateway and we support the campaign to bring the Olympic torch to Suffolk.

Olympics Legacy

Haven Gateway Partnership has committed to identifying an action plan setting out how it might support its partners in gaining from the benefits from the Olympic games.
