Culture & Tourism

The Haven Gateway welcomes over 17 million visitors per year, bringing more than £720 million of tourism business into the sub-region. The area offers a mix of beautiful landscapes and bustling market towns, ancient history and contemporary culture, unspoilt coastlines and traditional seaside resorts, rich birdlife and splendid architecture.

There are two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) - Dedham Vale, known as "Constable Country", and the Suffolk Heritage Coast. Colchester is Britain's oldest recorded town.

The Haven Gateway is currently working with Tourism and Cultural Officers within the sub-region in order to develop an Integrated Development Programme  (IDP) for Culture to be added to the Haven Gateway IDP identifying key priorities within the sub-region for additional investment.

The Partnership also works actively in partnership with East of England Tourism  as a key portal for information on Tourism within the sub-region.  For further information go to www.eetb.org.uk

As identified in our goals Cruise Shipping is vital to the local tourism economy and the Haven Gateway is supporting key partners to promote this as a cruise destination.  For further information follow www.havencruise.org

Olympics

Haven Gateway partners are working together to maximise the opportunities arising from the 2012 Games for the economy and people of the sub-region.

City of Culture 2013 Bid

The competition to become the UK's first City of Culture in 2013 will entered its next stage on 11 December when Ipswich and the Haven Gateway submited their bid.
