NOT the End of the Line for Harwich Linear Park
22/09/2010
Campaigners for a project to create a linked network of green spaces for wildlife and people will continue with their search for funding despite a recent bid to Natural England being unsuccessful.
Tendiring District Council is leading a project to join up a series of Green spaces between Parkeston and Ramsey in north Essex. The concept called Harwich Linear Park would have resulted in better access to the countryside. One hundred and sixty seven hectares of farmland, wetland and wildlife habitats would have been created.
The park is needed to help regenerate the area and would address a sub-regional shortfall in strategic green space, it would also provide a place for exercise and leisure improving the quality of life for residents. It would create a much needed 'green corridor' adjacent to a growing and expanding urban centre. Other green internationally designated wildlife sites on the Stour are under pressure and it was hoped this project would divert some visitors from them while also creating new habitat.
A previous big to the Haven Gateway Partnership was also unsuccessful.
