‘I love landscapes’ Campaign Launched
27/10/2010
The Haven Gateway Partnership (HGP) has launched its ‘I love landscapes’ campaign, asking local residents to come forward and suggest how the Partnership should spend its remaining green infrastructure fund.
Through this initiative, HGP aims to enhance the exceptional quality of place in South Suffolk and North Essex by: championing green infrastructure for a high quality of life; supporting community action for green space development and protecting and enhancing the distinctive landscapes and community spaces of the region. Such as views and vistas, coasts and country, walks and woodland, parks and picnic places
Jonathan Rochford from environmental charity Groundwork – working in an alliance with Haven Gateway Partnership – said: "The recent Comprehensive Spending Review has placed greater demands on Local Authorities and other public budgets than ever before. Communities have often been at the forefront of championing community spaces and we’re now looking to local people to suggest where they would like to see green space projects in the future and how we can encourage more community volunteers to come forward and deliver them.
"We’re asking everyone across the sub-region to tell us what they feel the green space priorities are in their area - through our dedicated website: www.ilovelandscapes.co.uk and what they value in a good quality green space."
Since 2009, through Government Growth Point funding, the Haven Gateway Partnership’s Green Infrastructure Strategy has already supported several key projects with the help of local volunteers, including:
Ipswich River for all – providing new foot/cycle bridges, improved and widened paths and on-site information about the river path and corridor in Ipswich
Belstead Brook Park – a new timber boardwalk and footbridge, directional signage and habitat improvements
River Gipping Access Enhancements - the widening of the original Gipping tow path – forming part of a circular route of approximately 1.2km with the potential to link into the national cycle route 51
Suffolk Sandlings Study – examining how Rendlesham and Tunstall forests can be managed in the future to provide a recreational resource for increasing visitor numbers and preserving sensitive landscapes and habitats
