The project will see the construction of a transportation and land use model in order to allow a better understanding of the links between transportation and land use and give the capability to investigate public transport and traffic management improvements.

Scope of the Project

The modelling package will include:

• Extending the Colchester Highway Model to cover Tendring.
• Constructing a Public Transport Model to cover both Colchester and Tendring.
• Constructing the Land Use Model to cover both Colchester and Tendring.

Aim of the Project

The modelling package will predominantly be used to lever in additional funding to the Haven Gateway and assist with the development of future investment programmes.

Outcome of the Project

The modelling package will support the growth agenda by providng a better understanding of the links between transportation and land use.  The model will help show how transport could help achieve the desired housing and employment targets and help to locate development in areas that return maximum benefit in terms of planning, sustainability and social benefits.

The Transportation and Land Use Model will allow measurement and quantification of value for money, economic and social benefits and links to the growth agenda, all in line with the Department for Transport's "Towards a Sustainable Transport System".

Funding for 2008/09 £600,000

Status as at 30 September 2008:

• Consultant appointed
• Data collection and processing by consultant under way.

 Status as at 31 December 2008:

• Data processing model development continuing.

Status as at 31 March 2009:

• The Colchester data element is complete.
• Tendring modelling work to be completed.

Status as at 30 June 2009:

• Model development ongoing.
• Model validation ongoing.
