Crag Walk, Walton on the Naze

Archaeological and ecological studies need to be completed prior to a planning application being submitted.

Crag Walk is a 110m educational pubic access and viewing platform which will be located at the south end of the Naze Cliffs and will enable visitors and schools to see and understand the erosion process affecting the coast.  The project is part of wider plans for educational facilities to help inform the community and others about coastal change and environmental issues.  The cliffs have international designations relating to heir fantastic fossils.  The viewing platform will allow access to the cliffs.

 

Scope of the Project

Carry out ecological surveys including invertebrate baseline field survey, Great Crested Newt survey and reptile presence and absence survey.

Undertake an archaeology survey including fieldwork.

Aim of the Project

To have completed all surveys by 1 July 2010 in order that the planning application can be submitted on 8 July 2010.

Outcomes of the Project

To enable a planning application to be submitted for a £1.2m capital investment.
