Ipswich Village Improvements

Ipswich Village is the major development focus within the IP-One area and there are opportunities for improvements that will facilitate further development in the area.

Project Scope

This project will deliver the following proposed improvement to the Ipswich Village area:

  • Provide a comprehensive signage and information system linking transport modes to Ipswich Village from te town centre and railway station.
  • Improve pedestrian footways and cycle pathways linking Ipswich railway station, Ipswich village and the town centre.
  • Contribute towards the possible purchase of the Princes Street maltings building to facilitate land assembly.
  • Purchase the leases of buildings adjacent to the Old Cattle Market car park to facilitate land assembly.
  • Carry out transport infrastructure improvements t the Princes Street corridor.

Aims of the Project

The aim of this project is to provide key walking and cycling routes within the Ipswich Village area improving accessibility and connections in the area.

Providing a comprehensive information and signage system to give relevant information at every stage of a journey through the Ipswich Village and beyond, connecting the Ipswich Village to the town centre and waterfront.

Outcomes of the Project

It is intended that these works will:

  • Bring social and economic benefits as well as environmental enhancements.
  • Meet aims under transforming Ipswich in relation to effective urban design.
  • Meet transport objectives.
  • Stimulate economic development.

Status

Funding for 2009/10 £85,000

IDP Package: IP-One

Status as at 31 March 2010:

  • Visibility study and consultation exercise carried out for signage system.
  • Stakeholder engaged on design details of information.
  • Detailed master mapping carried out by AIG.
  • Delay in ordering materials and improvements to footpaths in Princes Street delayed due to the possible lack of funding available in 2010/11.

Status as at 30 June 2010:

  • Installation of signage system and street improvements have been delayed due to funding restrictions imposed on the Council.
  • The Council is now seeking alternative funding from EU sources before continuing with the installation stage and implementation of the cycle paths.

Status as at 30 September 2010:

  • Installation of signage system and street improvements continues to be delayed due to funding restrictions imposed on the Council.
  • The landmarks and buildings have now been identified and the material for paper mapping has been sourced but not yet evaluated.
