Growth Point

Growth Point funding is required to facilitate the immediate start of surveys and design work for the Northern Approaches Road Phase 3 which will provide an essential link between the new A12 junction and the existing phases of the Northern Approach Road which currently terminates at Mill Road.

Scope of the Project

Development of the NAR3 Project to tender stage:

  • Investigation of statutory utilities.
  • Topographical survey
  • Geotechnical survey work
  • Environmental survey work
  • Outline and detailed design
  • Landscaping design
  • Preparation of contract documentation.

Aims of the Project

The NAR3 aims specifically to:

  • Support the release of houses at the Severalls Hospital site.
  • Support the release of employment and commercial floorspace, supporting approximately 5,000 jobs.
  • Improve access to existing housing and employment land in North Colchester and the Town Centre.
  • Support the delivery of Colchester's first purpose built Park and Ride at Cuckoo Farm.
  • Improve efficiency and reliability of local road network by reducing congestion.
  • Enhance Colchester's role as a regional tourist destination through enabling the Park and Ride.
  • Provide improved access to the Community Stadium.

Outcomes of the Project

  • Jobs created and safeguarded.
  • New homes and affordable homes created.
  • Reduction in traffic congestion.
  • Addresses identified negative perceptions in the area.
  • Provides clear evidence of long term sustainability.
  • Clear plans provided for promotion, evaluation/dissemation of results.
