Develop, scope and refine a project to regenerate the town centre of Stowmarket to include refurbishment or restoration of shop frontages and listed buildings, enhancement of streetscape and undergrounding of an electricity cable.

Scope of the Project

The appointment of a project co-ordinator to develop the town centre project to enable a pre-application bid to funders.

Aim

Develop the scheme to:

  • Attract investment into retail and other properties in the primary and secondary shopping areas.
  • Enhance the setting of the Museum of East Anglia Life
  • Improve the public realm and screetscape of the town centre.
  • Increase footfall by providing an attractive shopping environment.

Outcomes

  • Short term - successful application to first round of THI (February 2010)
  • Long term - enhancement to historic environment within the conservation area.
