Nearly 100 Colchester business representatives gathered at the Firstsite Centre last night (Friday 8th July) to add to the growing clamour for urgent investment in the A120. The event was hosted by the Haven Gateway Partnership who have been leading the A120 campaign, and Will Quince MP (Con, Colchester) – a key supporter of improving the A120 and whose constituents use the road in their tens of thousands every day.

A formal consultation into dualling the A120 between Braintree and the A12 near will open in January 2017, and over the coming months the A120 campaign will be hosting a series of business led events to demonstrate the overwhelming support that the campaign holds amongst local businesses.

Last night’s event featured speeches and campaign updates from George Kieffer (Chairman of the Haven Gateway Partnership), Conservative MP Will Quince, and Liberal Democrat Leader of Colchester Borough Council, Cllr Paul Smith.

George Kieffer, Chairman of the Haven Gateway Partnership, commented:

“Once again the Essex business community has spoken with one clear and very loud voice. Investment in the A120 is needed, and it’s needed now. The most striking element of yesterday’s meeting in Colchester was how many new businesses are joining the campaign, eager to lend their support. But moreover, politicians from across the political spectrum in Colchester are working hand in glove to deliver this vital infrastructure project.”

Will Quince, MP for Colchester, added:

“The A120 is a major highway used by local residents on a daily basis, as well as being a crucial link between Harwich International Port and Stansted Airport. Yet for too long, we haven’t seen the investment needed to unlock its potential. If we are to secure more jobs and money for Colchester, we need this project delivered now, and I am delighted by the support of businesses and politicians of all colours on this important issue.”
