The University of Suffolk, Associated British Ports and Suffolk Chamber of Commerce have launched a new leadership development programme for those working in International Transport.

The course will offer those moving into positions of leadership and management a chance to develop their skills in a series of workshops and seminars which focus upon the acquisition of key management skills and their application in logistics, ports management, freight handling and associated industries.

John Dugmore, Chief Executive of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, said “This course demonstrates the value of those businesspeople with relevant frontline industry experience and the University working together to create an exceptional programme tailored to meet business needs.”

The training will be split over six days with sessions being held once every four to six weeks at the University. It has been designed to meet the needs of a fast-moving and growing sector of the regional economy.  The next course starts on 23 May and there will be four intakes every year.

We hope this programme will help organisations like ours support the development of the next tier of managers so that we can continue to play a vital role in the region’s future prosperity.”

The course has been designed to build confidence and offer participants the chance to discuss their concerns as they move into supervisory roles. Each day spotlights a different element of management and draws on both transferable skills and specialist insight from the industry.

Dr Will Thomas, Associate Professor in the Suffolk Business School, added “We’ve worked closely with colleagues in the industry to ensure that participants are able to take elements from each session and apply them straightaway; improving their performance and that of their organisation.”
